What is EdgeFest?
EdgeFest is a summer street festival located in the heart of Edgewater, on Broadway between Thorndale at Ardmore. In 21012, the festival was launched as a way to promote our business and residential community.
EdgeFest, held the first weekend in August each year, provides an opportunity for local vendors to sell their wares and restaurants to serve food to 17,000 attendees over a two day period. In addition to food, drinks, and artisan vendors, EdgeFest brings local bands to play on two stages and provides children’s activities making it a weekend of fun for the whole family.
Who Produces EdgeFest?
The Edgewater Chamber of Commerce, a 501 (c) 6 organization serving the small business community in Edgewater, produces this yearly event. Sixty-three percent of our members are independent businesses; 74% of our members have less than 10 employees.
Why is there a requested donation of $5 per person or $10 per family?
A street festival of this scale is expensive to produce – costs range from street closure permits, to safety personnel, entertainment, and equipment. Donations at the door help us continue to produce the festival each year.
Proceeds from the festival benefit the Edgewater Chamber of Commerce so we can continue to support the small business community that is integral to making Edgewater a great place to live and do business.
What kinds of things does the Edgewater Chamber of Commerce do?
The Edgewater Chamber of Commerce provides one-on-one technical assistance and support to businesses including helping businesses gain access to financing and grants. Just this year we secured a grant to help business and property owners on Thorndale improve their storefronts.
We host events that benefit residents as well as businesses. In partnership with Special Service Area #26 we are hosting free Family Night Out events in the Broadway Armory parking lot each Thursday from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. in July and August. In partnership with the 48th Ward Alderman’s office and all 11 local schools in Edgewater, we are producing the first Edgewater 5k on September 28, 2014 that will benefit the schools.
Our ability to provide programming and services and be a strong community partner to make our neighborhood better hinges on grants, membership and donations from people like you.
We hope you enjoy EdgeFest with your family and friends and make a small donation to help us continue our work in Edgewater!
